Saving the Earth, One Citizen at a Time.
In September 2015, 193 world leaders agreed on 17 “Global Goals” for Sustainable Development to end poverty, inequality, and climate change by 2030.
We firmly believe in Clean Water and Sanitation, Global Goal 6. Water and sanitation-related diseases remain among the significant causes of death in children under five. More than 800 children die every day from diarrheal diseases linked to poor hygiene. Proper water and sanitation are essential to achieving the Global Goals, especially Good Health and Gender Equality.
The SDGs in Action app and the World’s Largest Lesson website are used as educational tools for our members.
Did you know that over 100 million marine animals die every year from being entangled or consuming plastic bags?
On average, we only recycle one plastic bag in every 200 we use. Each year, an estimated 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide. That comes out to over one million per minute.
Our Plastic Bag initiative, in collaboration with the City of Stuart, Martin County School District, and Publix, places an emphasis on environmental education. Educating students allows them to have a greater influence and leadership roles as “Plastic Bag Ambassadors.” This initiative also connects to Global Goals 12, 14, 15, and 17 because it promotes ending plastic litter while protecting our marine life and environment.
Unite with us, the Martin County School District, the City of Stuart, and Publix to #SaveOurOceans and #EndPlasticLitter, one bag at a time!
Here are some ways of how you can join our mission:
-
Bring your plastic bags to school to be recycled through Publix.
-
Raise awareness about this initiative through word-of-mouth and social media.
-
Encourage others to use reusable bags while shopping.
-
Be aware of where your school’s plastic bag receptacle is located.
-
Introduce yourself to your school’s principal, administration, and staff as a Students4H2O member and youth leader of this initiative.
-
High school students can receive volunteer hours for delivering plastic bags to Publix.
